How can essential oils help with fatigue?

I’ve often talk about how essentials oils can help with energy. And there’s a good reason for that. It’s something that is a constant battle for me. No matter what chronic illness you deal with, you understand what I’m talking about. My days have been super full lately, so when I sit down to work in the evening my brain is ready to shut down. There are definitely some nights when nothing helps, when it’s just been one of those overflowing days (like when the grands are here) However-- I do have a few tricks up my sleeves. Essentia...

Get Rid of the Mood Monsters

Essential oils are powerful helps for managing moods Whenever my grandson Ben comes to visit, he loves to do DIY videos with me. We call it Make It Monday. It doesn't matter if it's Wednesday or Thursday or Saturday -- he always asks to do a Make It Monday video. This time we decided to make No More Monster Spray. Which is actually perfect if you have little rugrats who need a bit of calming in the crazy department. AND it's perfect for you too. I have found since dealing with my autoimmune issues, I've really struggled with focus and moods that can be all over the place. Having something that centers me, helps me focus and improves my mood, well, that's a winner in my book. so without further ado.....check out this...

Why every home needs a bottle of Eucalyptus this summer

Welp. Summer is here. It’s been in the 90s, pool is open and a/c is rocking. We spend a fair amount of time outside, but I HATE getting over-heated. When I learned about liquid a/c, it was a very very happy day. The first oil I used to make this (extremely) popular spray was Peppermint (my volleyball girls love it). Pepp has a ton of menthol and known for relaxing and easing occasional headaches, as well as soothing muscles. It will also “pepp” you if you’re feeling drowsy – especially helpful on a hot summer day. Some folks find peppermint too intense, so Spearmint is a great alt...

Living your Best Life

What does it mean to live your best life -even with a chronic illness? Is it something only the rich or beautiful or smart get to experience? Or is it something all together different? I woke up last night about 3am and couldn’t get back to sleep. I’ve been dealing with a bit of respiratory mess again thanks to my good ol’ RA med. Having a chronic illness is a blast. I wandered in to the bathroom and this random thought hit me. Like a ton of bricks. “Is thi...

Lovely Leave-In Conditioning DIY Spray

Our family has been working to get replace of all the harsh products in our home with more natural options. When I began to study about natural living, I had no idea how many places harsh chemicals were hiding. Yes, in your shampoo and conditioner too . I started using th...

Does stubbornness help or hurt chronic illness?

Being both stubborn and chronically ill - when does it help and when does it hurt? I am one of the most stubborn people on the planet. And I hate being wrong. A LOT. And when I do end up giving up on something, I beat myself up over it. When Dave and I were first married (like 2 days married) we both realized that we were equally matched I the stubborn department. We were moving my fur...

Simple Mother's Day DIY

Mother's Day and pampering DIY projects go hand in hand I'm keeping the grands for a few days. They'll be here over Mother's Day, so I figured it was the perfect time for a simple Mother's Day DIY as a nice gift for mom when she comes back to get them. Dad's deployed, so Mom deserves extra pampering for sure. Since we're talking pampering here, the DIY had to fit the bill but also be super simple so two active little boys would be able to do it. Enter these awesome Sugar Scrub Cubes. I love these little cubes too - it makes this simple Mother's Day DIY simple to use (so easy to grab a cube and take into the shower). Feels so good on skin and with Balance and Citrus Bliss essential oil blends in them, they...

Three Tips for Better Time Management

I feel like lately I’ve lost control of managing my time. Days are speeding by, the things on my to-do list are growing and I’m not really enjoying life so much. STRESS is becoming my middle name. Time to stop, take a breath, and refocus for sure. I got stuck in a bit of a flare earlier in the year, which happens sometimes. As much as I have my dise...

Out Like a Light - Sleep Help for Chronic Illness

Sometimes we all need a little help getting some rest. I know that I go through periods of time where sleep is very difficult . If I’m in a flare, or I just have too much on my mind, it can be rough to get good rest. And that sets me up for a bad day and the cycle continues. I’ve written several posts on sleep – it’s that important for us. Recent research agrees: “… even a modest loss of sleep for asingle night increases inflammation, which is a key factor in the onset ofcardiovascular disease and autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis."said Dr. Michael Irwin, professor and director of th...

Weekend Yard Work - muscle and joint recovery with essential oils

Some of you have been following along with our many home repairs and renovations lately. I’m still trying to finish things up inside, but I have to parcel out my spoons carefully so I still have a BUTT-ton of trim to prime and paint. In the meantime, we had our driveway repoured and in the process, all the old shrubs needed to come out. They weren’t what would be my choice anyway – holly bushes are beautiful, but their pokey leaves aren’t very inviting lining the front walkway….. My neighbor, HB, is super smart and resourceful and has way more of a green thumb than I do. She always hits the clearance area of the garden department at Lowes when she’s looking for plants. She’s shown me I actually can nurse plants back to...

Respiratory support with Douglas Fir and a whole lot more

So as you all know I’ve been struggling with some respiratory muckity-much for the past few weeks. And what I tend to when I’m dealing with something is research the heck out of it. I know not everyone is like that, but I really enjoy finding new ways to de...

Hey amazing readers! I'm starting a crazy adventure with my sweet Mollypop. We are DIYing and sharing our adventures with you. We'll start having some cool projects next episode, but for now we are looking for some feedback. What are the top things you're interested in learning? Please share in the comments.

Medication Side Effects and Pie

Good gravy it’s been a little rough lately . My immune system is on vacation or something. Actually I think it has to do with the recent change in my meds, which is the motivation for this post. Thankfully I only take one medication these days, Actemra. At first I took it every two weeks, but that wasn’t quite enough – even with diet, exercise, and oils, I need a little help with my joints. So last rheumy appointment we increased the dose to weekly. Joint wise, it was exactly what I needed, but I’ve been sick twice in the past month. I can’t tell you the last time I was in bed sick all day, for multiple days – it’s been a WHILE . I haven&rsquo...

The Reality of Exhaustion & Fatigue

I'd like to welcome Caz from InsvisiblyMe.com with a great post that gives you insight into what people with chronic illnesses struggle with. Make sure you check out her blog and Facebook page and give her some love! What exhaustion and fatigue are not … 1. Laziness – it’s not simply not “wanting” to do something or not being bothered. 2. A temporary state that you can simply overcome with a little positive thinking or an energy drink. 3. Cured by sleep – being “sleep tired” and being exhausted are not mutually exclusive but they’re not the same thing. Getting some Zzzs does not equal a body that’s got energy. 4. An excuse...

Spring into a Healthier Home

April in NC is beautiful…… blooms everywhere. But also pollen……EVERYWHERE. If you’ve never experienced full blown pine pollen you have NO FREAKIN’ IDEA what a mess it makes everything. It actually hasn’t been as bad this year as in past years because we had a weird snap of really warm weather in early February. ...

My adventures with grilling and hair

Okay, so there is never a freakin’ dull moment in my life. Ever. Went to start up the grill -- which I’ve done probably a million times. I grill way more than Dave does. Well. This time I got a little bit of a surprise. The dern thing went WOOOOOSHHHHH and a burst of flame shot up and singed the heck out of my hair. It was a lovely (& smelly) new look. My first thought was “Lord I hope I still have eyebrows.” I mean have you...

A Spring Restart: Getting my life back on track

How many of you made a New Year’s Resolution and fell flat? Great intentions, but winter blahs, sickness, short days—lots of things set us up for failure. Yet every year we do it all over again. I have a new proposition . How about a Spring Restart ? The days are longer, flowers are blooming, weather is warmer so it’s easier to get out and be active….there is generally an air of renewal around. I know my energy levels make a huge leap about this time of year. So I’ve decided THIS is the time of year I am going to re-evaluate where I’m at and set some new goals, both personal and business. I’m going to share my personal eval and goals with you all and hopefully motivate you all to join me on this Restart. 1. Diet ...

How to survive life when everything bottlenecks

Life has been over the top crazy the past few weeks. I'm exhausted and overwhelmed and oiling like crazy. Yes, I am thankful since not too long ago there would have been no way I could have kept up with a fraction of what has been going on in my life. Even so, there are only 24 hours in a day and some things have to give. So what gets put aside? First, let me give you a glimpse into my world: See little Wes? The expression on his face matches mine about now. Hubby was away for 3 weeks for work. While he was gone we were in ...

Road Trips with RA

Road Trips with RA don’t have to be miserable This week I had the privilege to travel 8 plus hours to Orlando for the doTERRA Leadership Conference. It was an incredible experience, and oh-so-valuable for my business and personal growth. But road trips with RA is a challenge fr sure. It made more sense for us to drive, so my bud Kelli and I set off on our Thelma and Louise adventure. RA Warriors, you know what a long car trip can mean right? Stiff & painful joints, extreme fatigue, brain fog, and the risk of illness from exposure to WHO KNOWS WHAT (Have you seen some of those gas station bathrooms…….) But there are some tricks and tips that I’ve learn...

Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar Saves the World

Apple Cider Vinegar – miracle or a bunch of hype? I have noticed in the past year, after hitting 50, my metabolism is grinding to a halt. I gained a bit of weight that I’d like to ditch before it gets any worse. Not sure if it’s age, the one med I take, or what (yes, I did get a little lazy with my diet for a bit, but not toooo lazy) Anyway, my normal tricks to kick start weight loss were not working, and I started seeing info about drinking Apple Cider Vinegar being good for weight loss, among other many things. Curiosity got the best of me, and I start looking into it . And woah. I learned A LOT. Here’s j...
